In July , in an effort to spur tourism and promote Central Florida beaches, the toll road was renamed Martin B. Andersen Beachline Expressway in honor of the late publisher of the Orlando Sentinel. Andersen helped push to get State Road built and promoted Central Florida for 30 years. This portion of State Road and the bridge over the expressway at the interchange were later widened.

The Central Florida expressways share this legacy of connection, as well as history and features unique to each road. State Road bears the name of Martin B. Andersen, the longtime owner and publisher of the Orlando Sentinel newspaper.

State Road is the first expressway in the CFX system to be equipped with a wrong-way driving detection and prevention system.

A portion of the old toll plaza was retained for use as a service road for a Tampa Hillsborough Expressway Authority maintenance facility.
The first of two collection points along SR west is positioned just east of the Maydell Drive overpass. There is no advance sign for the upcoming diamond interchange. Continuing west, SR next meets the Selmon Connector, a series of elevated ramps connecting the Selmon Expressway with Interstate 4. A separate toll is collected electronically along the elevated Selmon Connector between Exit 10 and Interstate 4.
Two truck only flyovers connect the Selmon Connector with U. The speed limit along the Selmon Expressway reduces from 60 to 55 miles per hour beyond the parclo interchange Exit 9 with U. Exit 8 joins Kennedy Boulevard westbound ahead of East Street. SR encircles the Tampa central business district west to the Hillsborough River. Brorein Street leads west to Tampa Convention Center.
Morgan Street runs south from the central business district to Amalie Arena. A toll schedule sign precedes Exit 5 to Davis Islands. AET gantries are positioned above both the mainline and departing ramp. The second mainline toll plaza was located just beyond the viaduct spanning Plant and Hyde Park Avenues. Bay to Bay Boulevard heads west to U. Euclid Avenue meets the Selmon Expressway at a half diamond interchange Exit 2 within the Bayshore Beautiful neighborhood.
