We spent hours searching through old history and wondering what it use to be like living the life of the pilgrim so long ago. Here on a picnic table we had chicken salad wraps while the sun beat down and the wind moved the many windmill arms to a lazy beat. We ended our stay with trying out the old Ford from the early 's. We've come a long way from there. Zippingale Starcross, UK 42 contributions. This museum has both: its wonderful range of often donated items of daily life and rural work, the impression of an original village with the post-office, the school, the shop and hotel and the wonderful music-room where staff are ready to play a tune on the pianos.
But there are also the surroundings: the church, the tiny settlement, the windmills. This is great for all age-groups; the road leading to Etzikom is easy to find and navigate.
Worth the detour - relaxing, nostalgic and informative. We were driving to Lethbridge on the 3 and I saw the nice sign advertising this place and turned off the road - my husband missed the sign and thought I was crazy and going to nowhere - boy, was he wrong.
This place is amazing and fascinating. The museum was closed but we wandered around the windmills and loved them and the descriptive plaques. Some plaques were missing, but the ones left were very informative. The layout is great and we were so happy we stopped.
Even our 6-year old enjoyed exploring. TripMember Medicine Hat, Canada contributions. What a great place to stretch your legs while on a road trip. The museum is educational , well set out and a great place to visit.
Pity it was so terribly hot the day we were there, curtailed enjoyment the our door display. Geopiggy Canada contributions. Little Gem in a Remote Corner of Alberta. What a big surprise in such a small village. This old school has been converted into a museum in two parts. Inside contains separate rooms set up as they would have been in the era, plus a mock up of a old street in the gym. Outside contains the windmills and other farm equipment. You can also purchase baked goods and ice cream.
Very cool building on a very hot day. Many of these types of museums can be very cluttered, but this one was just right. We usually take a trip into Milk River but this time we drove to Foremost approx 60 km north for a couple of groceries.
I read, before leaving home, of a Windmill Museum at Etzikom approx 50 miles east of Foremost approx 25 km. The museum was easy to find - the town is very tiny. We first went into the building that used to be the school all on one level.
It was a nice entrance to see a 50's style soda-shop counter with original stool seating, plus a couple of small tables. They have a limited selection of food items but it was unexpected so that was a nice surprise.
Although initially I wanted ice cream, we learned that the pies were homemade. Hubby had apple pie and coffee and I had rhubarb pie, A very good start to our visit. Each room of the old school had a theme to the items. When in this area, you might want to check out Billings. We discovered some clip posted online.
