You can see it on the very right side of the map. Comment by Crusalis Welcome to the worst instance in Cataclysm. Dodge this place whenever you can, it isn't worth it if you are using the dungeon finder. Comment by Yolandryll Just a wheeze if you are looking for average ilevel gear to queue for Heroics. Comment by Hijou This is a pretty good place to be a skinner. Comment by romansamurai For those who are farming rep, it gives about rep on regular for a full run without clearing stuff that doesn't get in a way and not killing more than mobs with dragons.
You don't earn rep for killing mobs with drakes. Didn't really test it out on Heroic, was just running regular cause it's so fast. Tanked it in under 40 min with a 2 hander as a prot paladin hehe. Ilvl only ish. Comment by Imaginary Some numbers for Grim Batol normal mode. A couple other things to note: Figures include killing all available trash mobs, with no trash being killed by the dragon firebombing run.
Troggs drop loot, but are not worth rep. Summoned elemental minions do not drop loot, but are worth rep. Comment by I thought the name of this place sounded familiar Those who have read Tolkein's Lord of the Rings may remember the famous rhyme concerning the hegemony of the One Ring: Ash nazg durbatuluk Ash nazg gimbatul Ash nazg thrakatuluk Agh burzum ishi krimpatul.
Could be a coincidence, but more likely it's a nod to Tolkein like a lot of things in WoW Saw one where it required Skinning, where we're only allowed naturally to be at Makes me laugh everytime. Probably not intended, as you can fly out the windows and bug the graphics Comment by Gimroth Upon entering the final lair and gazing into the non-existent glare of Erudax, you feel a chill roll down your spine as an unfamiliar kind of movement catches your attention.
You look around and gasp at the sight of creatures crawling inside their twisted eggs. Their soundless screams from inside their shells send another chill rolling down your spine. Apprehension ensues as you catch the glimpse of huge, rusted chains. Yes, this is where the Dragonqueen has lost her beautiful colors. This is where her children were maimed and taken away from her.
This is where you avenge Alexstrasza, the Lifebinder. Comment by JGPenfield The queue requirement has changed. You can now queue for level 85 dungeons at level In the past you could enter at level 83 but could not queue until level Comment by mclaren There is a video that shows how to find the entrance to The Grim Batol and how to get back in if you die! I hope it helps. Comment by Squirrely It's listed at being available at lvl 84 and ilvl but I'm lvl 84 and ilvl and this place is still not showing up as an option for random dungeons.
Edit: It became available at Comment by amgyn Summoning Stone is at Comment by Quzamolari If you are looking to get past the lvl gap of , this dungeon is the way to go. The mobs give insane experience. Went in there on my DK with no looms and got boosted by a friend. I can strongly recommend it :. First, let me tell you that I am not especially well geared. I am a BM hunter, using a spirit beast and have an average item level of The bulk of my armor is the Crafted PvP set, except for a few epics ring, boots.
Still, I comfortably finished this instance alone and I didn't die once nor did my pet. I did use buff food and an elixir Darkmoon Firewater.
The strafing run you do before you start the main part of the dungeon helps make this go a lot faster. That's a big help. Edit: On more than one occasion I have been able to run to a second drake and do a full second bombing run! Don't worry about killing the mobs while strafing, as two passes just softens them up quite a bit without killing them.
CC is pretty easy, as the groups are far enough apart that you really don't have to worry about strays. There are no fears none I have run into , just a lot of rooting and stuns, but they don't last long. Each group usually consists of 4 or 5 mobs and with the guild perk that makes 11 rep points per mob. Bring along your Battle Standard of Coordination or Alliance equivalent as you can plant it when you get near bosses and still pick up some of the bonus rep from the mobs just before the bosses.
It's laid out so the walkways allow good coverage area of this buff. Edit: If you have a Darkmoon Tophat laying around, this would be a great place to use it, too. If you're a skinner I am not anymore, regrettably you'll get tons of savage leather or Blackend Dragonscales. Overall, very profitable and quite easy.
With your tabard from whatever Cata faction you are working on I am looking at YOU, Ramkahen , the rep adds up fast in this instance and you don't feel like you are wasting your time because you'll be making some decent gold.
Good Hunting! Anybody else remember sneaking around the mountains to try to figure out a way into the fortress like, six years ago? Comment by worthit Just a little info Normal You can enter this dungeon on foot at lvl This damage is AoE. In phase 2: Fire will spawn randomly throughout the room, and simply must be avoided, not a huge issue. Devouring Flames is a mana drain on the healer more-so than a raid wiper. The group members have two options here.
The Tank should never be hit by this ability. Erudax Abilities: Binding Shadows — The Bindings Shadows drains 0 life every 5 sec and root players within 0 yards of the target for until cancelled. Shadow Gale — Channels a Gale of Shadows inflicting increasing Shadow damage over time to enemies that are not in the eye of the Shadow Gale. The Faceless will try to run to any egg an use Twilight Corruption on it.
On successful cast, the egg will spawn two Twilight Hatchlings. The Corruptors will also try to use Umbral Mending on Erudax. And finally, they will cast Siphon Essence. Notes: Enfeebling blow, when used on the tank, should be used as a period to kite the boss until the debuff expires. These adds will only cast their spells when they reach their designated positions in the room and they have no agro table.
They are immune to stuns, but slows are still effective. They should be burned quickly to avoid consequences, as the dps do not need to worry about pulling agro.
The eye of Shadow Gale is not definitively outlined; stand as close to the centre as you can to avoid excess ticks. Heroic Differences: Shield of Nightmares is cast on Faceless Corruptors, do not attack them during this to avoid shadow dot on all players. You are commenting using your WordPress. Don't be fooled by Grim Batol's humble exterior; many of this mountain fortress's desecrated chambers are buried deep in the Twilight Highlands. Once the stronghold of the Wildhammer dwarves, and later seized by orcs as a prison for Alextrasza,[sic] the city is now in the clutches of the Twilight's Hammer cult.
Heroes brave enough to infiltrate the brooding depths of the stronghold must confront Deathwing's agents to thwart the mysterious evil within. During a bloody civil war among the three dwarven factions of Ironforge , the Bronzebeards ousted the Wildhammer and the Dark Iron clans from the ancient corridors of the mountain city.
In the wake of the defeat, the Wildhammers ventured north and forged a new home, Grim Batol , in the mountains of what is now the Twilight Highlands.
However, although they worked tirelessly to create a better future for themselves, the Dark Irons, who established the city of Thaurissan in the Redridge Mountains , could not move beyond the memory of their defeat. Consumed by the desire for revenge and desperate to control the entire dwarven region of Khaz Modan , the Dark Irons led a two-pronged assault on the Bronzebeards in Ironforge and the Wildhammers in Grim Batol. Despite their past differences, these two embattled rivals joined forces and drove the Dark Irons out of Khaz Modan, decimating the armies of the treacherous clan's sorcerer-thane, Thaurissan.
Yet victory carried grave consequences. Although Thaurissan's wife and queen, Modgud , was slain during the attack on Grim Batol, her death tainted the mountain fortress. While the Bronzebeards rebuilt their glorious city of Ironforge, the Wildhammers felt forever changed by the horrors they witnessed at Grim Batol. They fled their cursed home and never returned. The abandoned city's defiled corridors later became home to a number of nefarious plots.
When the Demon Soul was discovered by the Dragonmaw clan and used to force Alexstrasza 's drakes to serve the Horde , Grim Batol acted as the red Dragon Aspect 's torturous prison. The Dragonmaw held Grim Batol through the Second War , before they were driven out by Deathwing , who planned to steal Alexstrasza's eggs. Yet as Deathwing carried out his plan, the Demon Soul was destroyed, and the powers locked within were returned to Alexstrasza, Ysera , Nozdormu , and Malygos.
Deathwing narrowly escaped an assault by the four re-empowered Dragon Aspects, although he did not leave empty-handed; in his grasp were the eggs of Alexstrasza.
For their vile transgressions, the fleeing Dragonmaw were shown no mercy, and the struggle came to a quick end. Members of the red dragonflight were left behind to keep watch over Grim Batol, and for years they successfully guarded its desolate halls from further intrusion
