What is the situation with Informatica? Is there a particular extension language you can use? Is it proprietary, but perhaps closely related to a mainstream language? What is the likelihood of needing to use it for any jobs of consequence? This is only one factor I'm going to use in evaluating the space, but I need to get a little more up to speed on this aspect of Informatica before I feel fully informed.
Thanks for your answers! Informatica has its own transformation langugage that you can use in your expressions, filter and such.
It is quite versatile and not at all difficult to learn, if you're familiar with any of the most popular programming languages of today. SQL is probably the one it resembles the most. You will definitely need to learn at least the basics of this langugage to be able to use Informatica efficiently. Good understanding of SQL is pretty much a requirement anyway if you're going to use Informatica or any ETL tool - of course this depends on what your source and target systems are.
It is also possible to create Java transformations, although those should be fairly rarely needed. Usually the built-in transformations combined with Informatica's own transformation language will provide more than enough options. I have seen custom transformaions written in 'C'. For what it was used for, it really wasn't worth the effort.
Informatica comes to the picture wherever we have a data system available and at the backend we want to perform certain operations on the data. It can be like cleaning up of data, modifying the data, etc. Informatica software offers a rich set of features like operations at row level on data, integration of data from multiple structured, semi-structured or unstructured systems, scheduling of data operation.
It also has the feature of metadata, so the information about the process and data operations are also preserved. Skip to content. What is Informatica? An organization migrating from existing legacy system like mainframe to a new database system. So the migration of its existing data into a system can be performed.
Of course. With the new 'all java' approach, now all customization can be done via java and no more database specific customization.
All the layers now talk the same language in a consistent manner, which would help the developer community. Is it not more like Siperian was using Java which was further developed in to Informatica MDM without changing the language? Siperian was using 'Java' in limited scope where we had lot of database dependencies. Now, there is very little database dependency thereby MDM applications can scale at the application server level more easily to handle more data.
But you are right, that it is an evolved version of Siperian 'java' Even-though its a vast topic which cover all the SQL-like functions to transform source data, you can focus on the below listed topics for your certification exam.
